Meet our Pigs
 Home Sweet Home
Explore the incredible pigs who make the sanctuary so special.
The Maui Pig Sanctuary began with two tiny piglets and a whole lot of love.
In 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jillian met Cupid and Valentine, yes on February 14th. They were just four hours old, rejected by their mother, and weighed only two pounds each. She took them in and raised them indoors, and they quickly became well-trained house pigs and beloved members of my family.
Love was in the Air
Cupid, with his unique maple scent, and Valentine, who loves to suck on his blanket, taught her just how sweet, loving, and intelligent pigs are. Their story spread throughout the Maui community, and soon, she started getting calls about other pigs in need.
This led to fostering and rescuing more pigs, and in 2021, they conducted their first official large-scale rescue.
Today, at five years old and around 750 pounds each, Cupid and Valentine are the respected leaders of our large herd. They now live outside, enjoying cozy barns at night, and Valentine still finds comfort in his blanket as he falls asleep.

Thanks to Cupid and Valentine, the sanctuary continues to grow and thrive, a testament to their gentle nature and the love they inspired. They are still mama’s little cuddle babies. They are truly the founders and the kings of the Maui Pig Sanctuary!
Maple and her family
Jillian first encountered Maple on March 22, 2023, when she was found running loose along the roadside, dangerously close to being hit by a car. A kind citizen was trying to catch her, Jillian stopped to lend a hand. They brought her to the Maui Pig Sanctuary, where she has been safe ever since.
During her intake evaluation, the vet performed an ultrasound and discovered that Maple was pregnant. On May 15, 2023, she gave birth to her wonderful piglets, and we made a promise to Maple that she could keep them forever. Maple is the most caring, loving mother, and to this day takes wonderful care of her babies.
Her adorable babies were named Sugar, Syrup, Leaf, Candy, and her one little boy, Canuck. They have remained together as a family, bringing joy to everyone who meets them. Consider sponsoring Maple and her family to support their care and continue their happy life at the Sanctuary.

A Haven for Fire Survivor Pigs
From Ashes to Aloha: The Lahaina Fire Pig Rescue
In August 2023, wildfires devastated Lahaina, Maui. Amidst the tragedy, a remarkable story unfolded – the tale of 39 pigs who found refuge in a pond and miraculously survived the inferno.
The Maui Pig Sanctuary, a 501c3 non-profit is a local haven dedicated to rescuing pigs in need, stepped into action. Working tirelessly, they coordinated the rescue and relocation of these fire survivors.
A Journey of Hope and Care:
In November 2023, four Polynesian piglets embarked on a cross-country journey. These brave souls, named Lahaina and Maui (after their birthplace) and two others, found new homes at Rancho Compassion, and When Pigs Fly Ranch sanctuaries in California.
Five additional pigs were adopted by loving families right here on Maui!
Today, all 39 fire survivor pigs are thriving. They have received essential medical care, been spayed/neutered, and vaccinated. Now they enjoy a life filled with:
Spacious pastures to roam
Refreshing rivers and lakes to cool off
Mud wallows for playful fun
Cozy straw-filled houses for restful nights
Nutritious food to keep them healthy
Abundant love and socialization
This incredible rescue is a testament to the power of community and compassion.
